  1. Enrich VBA, take it out of maintenance mode

So VBA was put into maintenance mode, Microsoft moved programmers to .NET. That was years ago. Office Desktop apps are still selling with VBA and yet VBA has not been enhanced - the two environments do not compete and I have not seen .NET intrinsically replace VBA and packaged as Office's internal programming language. There are so many ways that VBA can be enhanced. Linq can be added so that we are not typing mutiple quotes in unverified statements isolated in a string. String Interpolation. Managing large chunks of text in strings etc.. etc...

    • Increase visibility when using higher resolutions

Make adaptations in resizing reports and wizards etc. to ensure readability in higher display resolutions.

For example in the linked table manager but also when using interactive graphs in forms and some wizards the text becomes unreadable: The line width is too small to show the whole letter.

If I reduce display resolution it all works fine again.
Also due to the inability in wizards and linked table manager to change the line width I cant use access at the preferred resolution.

      • compress memo fields with a real compression decreasing the size of the accdb file

it would be great if Memo fields would be compressed automatically with a real compression alogorithm. Decresing the file size could increase the Performance and avoid Problems with bloated files.

            • term dates

Please add the ability to set term dates, like quarters can be done (so like spring, summer, winter) and possibly add holiday versions as well/customisable amounts.

                • Put more Access 2007 Background Colour in Access 2016

We find that the background colour selection in Access 2016 are way too restrictive (blinding white). Access 2007 has a light blue background and is pleasing to the eye. Would it be possible to include in Access 2016 along with other colour options?

                  • Developer helpers

                    1. Fix all the tiny dialogs to at a minimum be sizable.
                    2. Modify the linked tables manager to sort by data source. Since you can only relink one datasource at a time it makes absolutely no sense to sort alphabetically, especially when the window is so small that you can't even read half the table names, either do this easily by sorting by data source or even better by creating a source drop down and using that to filter so the form only shows tables from a particular source. I have a sample I created for my own use…

                      • Please stop Access 2013 from automatically changing the Modified Date on Access files if no changes are made to a file

                        I have Office Professional 2013.

I have it installed on an Asus Laptop running Windows 8.1.

Also OP 2010 on Windows 7.

I open 99% of my files through "File Explorer" as I have several thousand (files) sorted into numerous sub-folders.

Whenever I open an Access file to check some details and then close it WITHOUT MAKING CHANGES "File Explorer" shows that Access has automatically changed the "Date Modified" to the most recent date and time that I open and then close the file.

This is despite the fact that the last time I may have made a change whether…

                        • STOP Teaching Students BAD Practices

OK I get it... you supposedly don't need to be a developer to use Access and that's great. But really you should stop training everyone who doesn't know any better that it's ok to do things like place spaces and weird character in object names. It will eventually bite you even within Access as soon as you move to VBA or a SQL Server backend.

Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should. It's just all around bad practice and eventually everyone who continues on to use Access will learn the hard lesson that is not taught in…

                          • Enable Password Decryption using a different Password

Users having the ability to Decrypt the Database is a huge security liability. Unencrypted databases enable Remote Queries which are very simple to create. Even the System Tables can be access by Remote Queries from another database.

                            • Create a new Requery method which returns to the current record

When you requery a form after updating another form or another table, Formname.Requery goes to the first record. On a continuous form it is a real nuisance to have to return to the original record. We need a Form.RequeryReturn function to bring us back to the original record. Obviously, isf the record is deleted it should return to the previous record.

                              • Integration with Cortana for navigation purposes

Add navigation commands such as “Open”, “First Record”, “Next Record”, “Previous Record” and “Last Record”.
The “Open” command would be followed by the Form or Report…”Open Sales Order”…”Open Purchase Order”.
If possible a “Find” command would really rock. “Open Contact Maintenance”, “Find Jane Smith”.

These commands would be very useful in a mobile environment.

                                • Make Access an SDI program

I mis-wrote yesterday. What I propose is that Access offer an SDI user interface - Forms etc.. don't have to be modal and display in separate windows. Word and Excel have been upgraded to that mode of display, why not Access.

                                  • VB Code References Dialog Box should be sizable

If we open any VBA module (either a module or the one in code-behind-forms), one of the choices we have is pointing the Jet or Ace engine to the correct Reference Library. This dialog box is very small and should be bigger by default. Ideally it should be sizable and Access should remember the size where we left it. That would be NICE!

                                    • Add a suffix to copies of objects instead of the prefix 'Copy of '.

When a copy of an object is made, 'Copy of ' is added to the front of its name, separating it from the original when sorted alphabetically. It would be much easier to find the copy in relation to the original if a suffix was used instead. That way it would be right after the original object when sorted alphabetically.

                                      • Search and replace on all database objects.

Queries, Forms, Reports, Macro, VBA, possibly even tables.

Today I do this by exporting all database objects to text files, using a utility that I built, and then using a customer text search app that I built to find strings using regex matches. Then I have to go and open the objects and manually make the changes.

                                        • Add a VBA method to the Navigation Pane so the Search Bar text can be cleared or set

I have developed a few Access Add-ins that I use to extend the development environment (like a Navigation Pane replacement with features like Access 2003). I'm able to use VBA to select an object on the Navigation Pane, but only if it's visible in the current Search filter. I'd like you to add a method to the Navigation Pane so I can clear the Search Bar, or even better allow me to set the value. Does adding a method like this cause a lot of heartache for the Access team?
