You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Increase the maximum file size from 2GB upwards

I know that this idea has been floated twice before and I also note that the Access team have responded and indicated that this is not part of the development and I also note that its been closed so more votes cannot be taken on it. Thought it was important to re-open because its actually quite a popular idea. I understand that SQL Server / SQL Azure or SQL Express are the way to go if users are wanting larger backends but for quick and dirty working for ETL projects or random data analysis of large datasets individuals may not…

    • Give us the ability to do a Partial Compress & repair on the current database

Give us the ability to request a partial Compress & Repair at the table level within an opened database.
It should not be impossible to compress database records and disk pages at the table level, bypassing and freeing up any space no longer needed for deleted data records and index entries.
Given Microsoft refusal to consider revamping the database Access database files to allow for larger databases, then giving us the ability to better manage the available 2GB of space by making incremental requests to compress & repair thins partially at the table-level could be a meaningful compromise. This could…

      • Add Comments field to Address Info

I would love to see a Comments or Notes field in the Address Info in the Contact Manager (similar to the field in the Phone Info). This would allow us to keep notes of what each address might be for. For example, family member address for our older clients who have family helping them or different departments for our other clients addresses.

        • It would be nice if when adding an attachment to Access that it brings up a list of recently opened files to select from as outlook does.

Adding files to an access db would be easier if it brings up a list of recently opened files that can be selected just as Outlook does.

          • Th error "Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database, and the open it again." needs to be made MUCH smarter.

When working on a database opened from LOCAL storage, network events like undocking and re-docking a laptop may trigger this error because an ODBC-connected resource was ALSO open (like a linked table in datasheet view). other open objects, like an open querydef which is NOT open in a network-attached connection to an ODBC resource now CANNOT be saved because Access will throw the above error message endlessly - and in this case, senselessly.

The above error should only be thrown when Access cannot successfully re-attach to or reopen a failed network connection or resource. (I am obviously not counting circumstances…

            • Make Access THE go to tool for RAD against SQL.

Don't ditch Access as it is in favour of the web apps. Make Access THE go to tool for rapid application development against SQL databases. Integrate SQL tools within Access. Freshen up the forms and reports designers, AND the VBA editor. Make it easier to lock down the finished application so users can't bypass the start up options and get to design and data.
Yes, we have >net, VB/C# etc. but to build a quick app for departmental use, Access has got to be the tool of choice.

                • USysNotes Object for documentation

When creating objects such as forms and reports it would useful to be able to have a dialogue form where you can key in notes and a date to keep documentation current. Have a few columns for date, user notes and developer notes. On the ribbon, have a notes icon which will open the notes to the current object for display and edit. Have it link to the ID Field in Msysobject table.

                  • Create error log file for all messages but it must include enough audit info

Perhaps like a sql server log file, create a file of with error messages using err.object properties but the records must include application db, user, date/time, object(access object), module, procedure.

                    • Add a .Workspace property to the DATABASE object. Also, add Properties to the WORKSPACE to reflect whether any TRANSACTTIONS are open.

There is currently no pointer from an open Database handle to point back to the Workspace it is a part of. There should be - we get away with this because Workspaces(0)(0) is the detault 99.999% of the time. However, what if it isn't? We can't tell form looking at the open database handle, and that's actually pa problem, especially if one needs to react, say in a bit of generic error handling code, to any pending/open/hanging TRANSACTIONS in the relevant WORKSPACE.

Which brings me to the second point - there is no available STATUS properties of the DBEngine, Workspace,…

                      • There should be a feature to disable the ability to export all objects in access desktop database

There should be a feature to disable the ability to export all objects in access 2007 SP3 up to access 2016 desktop database, regardless whether the database is passworded or not.
