  4. ODBC call failed in version 2007

Version 2007 popped in this morning, with new issues not seen before. I have been working on the decimal number issue in 2005, hoping for a fix for that, but instead got an ODBC error when opening a recordset. This error is not present if I have an access backend database. I have not yet had time to dig deeper into this yet.

  5. Bug with Office update 2005 build 12827 - Decimal data type enforced in ADO recordset based on passthru query

    In my testing
    ODBC connection to Postgres v11
Create a passthru query "SELECT COUNT(id)::INTEGER AS counter FROM foo"
    Mark query as returning records
Open ADO recordset on above query

    Result:
    rs.Fields("counter").type = 20 ' DECIMAL ?!
    rs.Fields("counter").value = ""

Same error with "SELECT COUNT(id)::BIGINT AS counter FROM foo"

    Current state:
Have to revert MSO on 20+ backoffice client machines and hope that ADO will be reverted as well.

  7. Performance Analyzer needs to be resiszable and NOT modal.

I recently started using the Performance Analyzer tool on the Database Tools Ribbon, to fix other peoples poorly designed but still quite essential work. Two major problems with it, are that the suggestions are almost always wider than the window, which has no scroll bar, and the dialog is also modal, preventing any manual investigation/repair, without closing the tool - Not very useful at all...

  8. Support LongLong - or BIGINT - natively in Access 365 just like Excel 365.

BIGINT needs to be turned on in Access 365 and 2016. LongLong (2^64) - 1 is simply another data type available natively in Excel 365. This should be available in 64-bit versions of all Office applications VBA as well as the tables in Access.

  9. XML Export and Import of Large Number (BigInt)

I can't complete round trip ExportXML and ImportXML of a table that contains a "Large Number" (BigInt) field. Currently, the BigInt field is stored in the XML output with an attribute:
    <xsd:restriction base="xsd:decimal">
When the XML that was exported from Access is imported back in to Access the field type is changed to "Number" and then all values that are bigger than Number fail to import.

When you say that you support BigInt I expect built-in functions to support it. You can test this using the export and import buttons in the GUI.

  10. Fix bug when copying ImageList ActiveX controls from one form to another

I've noticed recently that copying ActiveX control of type MSComctlLib.ImageListCtrl.2 (Microsoft ImageList Control, version 6.0) from one form to another is buggy.

Whenever I've attempted to copy an ImageList from one form to another recently, the object is copied but I see an error message (usually repeated twice) and the control comes in at 8cm x 5cm instead of its usual 1.005cm x 1.005cm. Any attempt to resize it results in the same error message, which usually comes up twice, presumably once for each dimension.

Actually, even if I try resizing the original object which is the correct size of…

  11. Display Form Caption when Minimized

In previous releases of Microsoft Access, a minimized form would display at least a few characters of the form caption before showing the restore, max, close buttons.

    Sample:
    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhezOlimTLoah_40R2mSOThcj5cFiQ?e=BlON97

In current builds of Access, the restore, max, close buttons consume all of the width of the minimized window, leaving no room for even a portion of the form caption to be displayed.

    Sample:
    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhezOlimTLoah_41HY08IxXU44DUrw?e=rpFGd1

If multiple forms are minimized, the user is no longer able to make an informed choice about which minimized Window to restore.

    Suggestion:
Please make the width of minimized forms wider so that the caption (which…

  12. allow for table and query views to be snap-docked with adjustable borders

Currently, objects (tables etc) can only be viewed as tabbed or floating windows. It will be handy to allows the windows to be snap-docked so that space can be be optimised and multiple windows can be viewed with minimum time spent adjusting the borders.

  15. listcount

Small bug in List Boxes - if you show column headings, the list count includes the column heading. For example - if the list box diplays no records the the list count is zero. If there is one record then the list count is 2

  17. Add Tables Task Pane scroll wheel should scroll the list

Update the Add Tables Task Pane so if you've clicked into the list and scroll the mouse wheel it scrolls the list. Even better if the mouse is over the list and you scroll the wheel it should scroll the list.

Also arrow keys should allow you to move up and down on the list after you've click on an entry in the list.

  18. Decimal data types and Calculated fields in DAO.recordset (build 16.0.12827.20152)

Anyone having problems with DAO.Recordsets and calculated fields in the latest Insider update (16.0.12827)

    So long I found:

    • When accessing a table field with "Decimal" data type, recordset returns empty string... Changing the data type to double fixes the issue

    • When accessing a query calculated field (sum) the DAO.Recordset returns empty string... Adding the CDbl to the query field fixes the issue.
