  3. Enable seamless integration with Excel objects

In light of the items requesting return of Pivot*** objects (https://access.uservoice.com/forums/319956-access-desktop-application/suggestions/10284183-add-pivot-charts-back-to-access) being rejected, I want to suggest an alternative that I hope is much simpler to implement and would bring better experience:

Ability to seamlessly embed Excel objects, be they tables, charts, pivotcharts, pivottables, directly inside Access.

This already exists but it is very awkward, outdated, and includes unwanted things (e.g. Excel's chrome, the spreadsheet itself and so forth). This solution should allow us to define an Excel object using Access data and show it as if it was just a normal Access control. It should allow us…

  4. Please can we have the linked Table Manager available for the Runtime.

When you are installing the Database on a Client's Network, the Server or Shared Drive will have a different Path to the Development PC System.

This makes it very difficult to install a System on a Client's PC where there is not a full copy of Access.

  5. Upgrade the Date Picker

Please give us a full featured built-in date picker which allows quick pick of a month and year and which can be interacted with through VBA.

    Thanks for posting.

The team has reviewed this ask (and other related suggestions) and we will add it to a ‘Customer Wish List’.
It will be prioritized and added to our backlog.

Closing this item so you can get your votes back. You can continue to add comments to show your support and share your ideas.

    Thanks,
    Michal [MSFT]

  6. Fix longstanding bug where conditional formatted controls can always receive focus

Fix longstanding bug wherein a control with conditional formatting and properties Enabled = No and Locked = Yes can receive focus. Controls without conditional formatting applied and properties Enabled = No and Locked = Yes cannot receive focus or have their contents selected.

  7. Please find a way to create 508 Accessible reports and export them as 508 compliant pdf files.

Right now, there is no way to easily create a 508 compliant document from a database. I have to create a temp table, run code to strip out any rich text, export it as a text tab delim file, program Adobe to import this text file into a 508 compliant document, and then go back to the database, get the photos needed, and copy paste them into the PDF. The 508 wave is crashing down on us, and the inability for Access to handle this requirement is frustrating!

  8. Switch between objects with Ctrl + Tab

In previous versions of Access it was possible to switch between objects with Ctrl + Tab. Please reactivate this feature. Strg + F6 is not an ergonomic shortcut.

  9. GUI contrast

You have to improve the contrast used within the GUI. Whether it be in the VBE or Nav Pain (sorry I meant Pane), when you select an object and the open it, you can't make out which object was selected. It is horrible. And much worse on laptop and tablets. It should pop out at the user. I should need to scroll, move up and down to figure out what is currently selected as is presently the case.

  10. Access 2016 Dragging Queries into Macros crashes Access

When creating macros in Access 2016 if you drag a query into the macro into white space it works fine and adds the query however if you happen to drag it over another query access with crash, no errors or anything just crash out.

I recreated the issue in our environment with a blank database to remove any other variables that our production databases may inject to the issue and I get the same behavior.

I've also tested on a fresh windows install with Office 2016 installed from the office 365 portal.

Users on the access for developers forums were…

  11. Allow Update of Linked Excel Worksheet

The patent preventing this was taken out in the early 1990s so it should have extinguished by now.

Given that this would make Excel much easier to use for charting, which Access no longer has, it would seem time to re-implement this ability.

Preferably with better control over column data types.

  12. Add a suffix to copies of objects instead of the prefix 'Copy of '.

When a copy of an object is made, 'Copy of ' is added to the front of its name, separating it from the original when sorted alphabetically. It would be much easier to find the copy in relation to the original if a suffix was used instead. That way it would be right after the original object when sorted alphabetically.

  13. Who is using the Database?

On a shared network with a backend/frontend configuration, (or even in a single-shared-file arrangement), please provide a tool that tells us who has the database open.

  14. Text Boxes Should Have Visible Spell Checking

This should be an option for text boxes to have spell checking highlight words that aren't in the dictionary. Similar to Word or filling out text boxes in web browsers, the visible indicator of typos is important. Running F7 to launch the spell checker afterwards is not the same or as helpful.

  15. Improve the built in Date Picker

Currently the built in date picker is useful only with inputting recent dates. Since you can only navigate month by month if the user needs to enter a date more than a few months away, it can be cumbersome to navigate.

The Date picker should allow the user to select a month and year to choose the date from.

Also it would be nice if one could add a time picker to a DateTime control. Either along with the date picker or instead of it.

The limited usage of the current date picker forces developers to use other solutions when…

  16. Fix a new issue in 2016 ... email a report... file attachment no longer works.

when using the email command with an open report, the outlook new email dialog box opens but the file is no longer attached. this appears to have been lost with the most recent update of the office 365 in mid December 2015.

  17. Please allow users to disable the hyperlink popup that says "Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer..."

Please allow for users to suppress this popup, it's an incredible annoyance when you have to click it hundreds of times a day.

  18. Please update the look and feel of Desktop forms and controls

I have not found an alternative to developing in Access for creating custom desktop software for small businesses. All of the other options require 2-3 times the development time for the same functionality.

The forms and controls in Access Desktop need a facelift. Its been quite a while since you've done anything with them. Please update them.

  19. Better integration with SQL Server Azure

Web app are too limited to build any kind of complex solution, but Access 2013 web apps are built on SQL Server Azure which is pretty solid. Leverage the relationship with Azure and add features to the existing desktop apps so that they play nicer with Azure databases. Things like the ability to create an Azure databases from within Access, an easy way to upsize existing MDB/ACCDB tables, a native AutoComplete control, etc.

The best part of this is you can monetize it from the start. You need a way for people to create a small sample database for free…

  20. New Event: 'On Access Application Window Close'.

This event must have a Cancel option also.
This would be an Application Level event (not a Form event).

Many developers have requested this over the years.
More often than not, you want to check some conditions before a user closes Access
Of course, there are various workarounds, but we should not have to bother with workarounds, as well as additiona workarounds to deal with potential issues when Access is closing.

Most all professional applications have this. For example (only), when you click the X to Close Quickbooks Pro, a prompt occurs asking "Are you sure you want to exit?"
