  1. Provide these 3 basic native controls (slider, spinner, and progress bar)

I believe these are 3 basic controls that Access developers need. By having these controls, we will be able to build interfaces more user friendly and won't have to deal with portability issues we encounter with mscomctl.ocx and Access x64.

Thank you for posting and supporting.

The team has reviewed and will take into consideration when planning future Access features and capabilities.

For now we are closing this item for voting, so you can get your votes back (and you can add comments to show your support and share ideas).

    Thanks,
    The Access Team

  2. GIVE US BACK A VBA SOURCE CONTROL OPTION

If IT managers are to EVER consider Access & VBA as a worthwhile part of the enterprise development picture, then serious attention needs to be made to allow for source control of Access apps - BOTH for desktop and AWA "sides". Macros need a MUCH better (XML) editor and source control options too. Hell, for "lite"/quick & dirty approaches, why isnt' there a way to have Access create its own "source control database" on the fly? After all, Jet/Ace is a database engine, right? so why not make it able to create its own source control database and store code.macro…

  3. Linked Table Options

When Linking Tables, initially and in the LinkedTable Manager, it would be nice to:

    1) Expand the dialog box !!!! Many table names are too long to see
    2) have an optional textbox to optionally preface the name in Access with something
(as the SourceTableName and Name are 2 different properties)

    3) skip tables with errors and continue linking with all in the list -- leave the problem tables checked

    thank you

  4. Add an API for Security - Including IT Governance issues in the security envelope

In losing Desktop Jet ULS security (which was poorly implemented anyway), the security baby was thrown out with the bath water. It needs to be brought back! Integrate security groups with Active directory, and store the security within an internally encrypted section of the database file, using a key separate from the database password/encryption key. This security needs to include such things as permission to create a new database, permission to copy/export data, table access and field-level access controls, permission to cut/paste data. These security options should be able to be respected across WAN/Sharepoint/AWA scenarios as well as desktop/thick client…

  5. List of limitations and missing functions :(

we would like to have following limitations to be lift from upcoming versions:

    Limitations:
1>Tabs within tabs should be possible
2> passthrough query's connection string limited to 255 char can you lift that too so we can add long SSL certificate locations?

    New functions:
1> Global Error capturing especially odbc errors like lost connections
2> Resizing form & resize components.
3> Can tabs have an option whether its contents are loaded upon entering tab.
4> Allow CSS formatting for forms or any global style sheet. Or at least allow us to create more sections in the (theme colors)
    5> allow…

Thanks Krish for taking the time to share these ideas.

The team reviewed the asks and most of them have been added to the active backlog. However, it will take a while before we get to all of them (@Joe – 2027? are you joining the team to help? ;-))
For future suggestions, we recommend that you break them up into separate items. It will help other supporters as well as the team.

    Thanks,
    The Access Team
