  1. Access database in an inconsistent state...Windows 10 1803 update

    Access database in an inconsistent state....since the release of Windows 10, 1803 our significant percentage of our 3500 customers have consistently lost connection to the back-end database and been forced to stop work during the day to repair their database. Only recently did we discover the leasing fix. In the meantime, our product reputation has been adversely affected. Please release a production update since many of the IT people have refused to make the lanmanserver registry entry and are waiting for the Windows update. HELLO MICROSOFT PLEASE HELP!!

    • Fix Windows 10 1803 Frontend - Backend corruption issues

      We have some databases with a split front end (stored on local computer) and backend (stored on a server mapped via relative path) using Access 2016 (build 9126.2259). Since upgrading many computers to Windows 10 1803 the backend database constantly becomes corrupt. We have to disable the three caches referenced in the article linked below in order for the corruption to stop, but this makes file server operations much slower while also causing unnecessary network traffic. We never had this issue on Windows 10 1703.

      • Bug Report -- Multiple Access Crashes

        Since 8/1/2018, MS Access has been crashing repeatedly on multiple machines in our office. We are on 64 bit Office 365 and Windows 10. It appears some bug must have been introduced during one of the automatic updates.

        This crash appears to occur with automation where I think a second instance of MS Access is calling an MS access program, but not totally sure:

        Faulting application name: MSACCESS.EXE, version: 16.0.10325.20118, time stamp: 0x5b64d927

        • Fix Crash when setting a filter in a Report in a Navigation Control (Access 2013/2016)

          I have a form with a navigation control. In a navigation button, I set the Navigation Target to the Report "rpt_Test". In the Open event of rpt_Test, I set a filter:

          Private Sub Report_Open(Cancel As Integer)

          Me.Filter = "TestID > 5"
          Me.FilterOn = True

          ' Access crashes on the End Sub Statement in the second execution
          End Sub

          When I navigate to this button, the Report_Open event is fired twice, and the crash occurs on the Exit Sub the second time around. It is a hard crash with the message "Access has stopped working".
          I can produce the crash as…

          • Build a new better Access

            Imagine a client side, pure javascript, SPA web application that displays windowed, data bound forms that talk to SQL Server. These forms are modeled with all of the well though out capabilities of Access forms (same subforms, datasheets, subdatasheets, controls, events, and properties). The development environment is Access-like but Javascript has replaced VBA. SSRS and PowerBI render the reports. SQL Server is the database and the web server, delivering the application through a web port, manages the session/connections, and maintains data. The product comes with SQL Server. Not bound to the cloud, but bound to SQL Server.

              We are continuing to invest in Access Desktop, introducing new features regularly.

              Please follow what’s been added to Access 2016 (O365) here:

              You can also view O365 public roadmap and search for new features that are in development

              Another good source of information is the Access TechCommunity space here:

            • Linked Table Manager: select all tables from same back end

              One of the biggest pains is when you have multiple back ends and Linked Table Manager (LTM) prompts you at every table. When you have lots of links and multiple back ends, it's a pain to go through and select all from only one back end.

              Idea #1: Click on a single table in LTM, then click a button: "Select all tables from same back end." Voila! Now you can update that single back end, and then move on to the next one.

              Idea #2: Sort the tables by back end. Not as convenient as Idea #1, but would still…

                • Change Link Path Without DB

                  It would be great to be able to Change the Path of existing Linked Tables to another path even if we don't have that path. This would greatly simplify deploying to client networks. We could deliver the database all ready and configured.

                  • Add a butoon on the end of each tab to quick close

                    Some actions require for a sheet to be closed. While I see the logic for this it would be easier if when the mouse hovered over the tab a button to close the tab would pop-up. This would be much faster than left-clicking the tab and then selecting close

                    • Include dark grey as background colour in Access

                      This would be more restful the eyes than the glare of the white or "colourful" settings used at present.

                        • Please update Themes (add Dark Gray and Black) to be consistent with other Office suite

                          We (Access folks) were promised the Dark Gray and Black themes over a year ago. All other Office apps have these. "Blinding white" and "(not my) Colorful" are not very good options, especially when we are trying to be consistent with other Office apps that have 4 choices. Thanks

                          • Refresh table on right click

                            Whenever I modify a table or a view in SQL server I need to go refresh the table link. Currently that means
                            * right click a table
                            * Select Linked table manager
                            * Find the table I want to refresh
                            * select it
                            * click refresh table links

                            I would really like it, if we could simple right click a linked table, and just select refresh to have that single table refreshed.

                              As part of us designing on a new Linked Table Manager dialog, we are incorporating related suggestions and requests made in UserVoice and other forums.
                              Stay tuned.

                            • Add Accdb wise grouping in linked table manager.

                              It becomes difficult to identify the source of a table when using multiple databases as a backend.

                                  Thank you for taking the time to post your suggestions. It is hard to respond as there are multiple items in your single suggestion.

                                  As for charts – we are actively looking into ways to modernize data visualization in Access.

                                  Stay tuned.

                                  Customer has a HRD application connects to Access DB. After installing ODBC 2016 or Office 2016 (which includes ODBC), the awards in Logbook ceases to work and reports only zeros. Customer has a workaround for now:

                                  Fix: An automatic workaround will be put into HRD.
                                  Workaround:
                                  Modify the registry to use the new (old) strings.
                                  1. Pull up regedit and go to HKCU\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources
                                  2. Note the “Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb)”. That was added partially in 2007 and fully in 2010. Some older entries may have the old style string already.
                                  3. Change them back to the original…

                                    • bring it into conformance with high DPI design standards

                                      Need to clean up all the UI to scale properly on high DPI displays. E.g., Navigation pane vertical object spacing, low res navigation pane object and navigation (expand/contract) icons, and "Save changes to the following objects" dialog box.

                                      (Hate to spend precious votes on what is basically a set of defects, but there it is.)

                                      • Linked Table Manager -- skip tables with errors

                                        in the Linked Table Manager, skip tables with errors and continue linking with all in the list -- leave the problem tables checked and uncheck the tables that were successfully linked.

                                        At the request of Microsoft, I am creating a new suggestion to separate the multiple ideas from the suggestion here:

                                        • Linked Table Manager -- SIZEABLE Dialog Box

                                          Access 2016 has a wider dialog box for the Linked Table Manager, but it would be even nicer if this dialog box was sizeable -- and even better if the size can be remembered!
