Welcome to the Access Desktop feedback forum! This is the place for users to send us suggestions and ideas on how to improve.
We have partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service and your use of the portal and your submission is subject to the UserVoice Terms of Service & Privacy Policy, including the license terms. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Include "hide control" feature Continuous Forms

Currently on Continuous Forms, the developer can enable/disable, along with a few other functionality items relating to conditional formatting. At the moment, there is no "hide/unhide" feature to allow developers to display or not display controls based upon values of a particular row of data. There are ways to do it, but only in a very convoluted way, and very confusing when having to manage the code. Please include this functionality for continuous forms!

    • Linked Table Manager -- SIZEABLE Dialog Box

Access 2016 has a wider dialog box for the Linked Table Manager, but it would be even nicer if this dialog box was sizeable -- and even better if the size can be remembered!

At the request of Microsoft, I am creating a new suggestion to separate the multiple ideas from the suggestion here:

      http://access.uservoice.com/forums/319956-access-desktop/suggestions/10129782-linked-table-options?tracking_code=2f58832dad1aa8b9e83d9230087106c8

so if you voted on that one, remove your vote and vote for this instead, if this is what you want.

      Also posted:
LinkedTable Manager -- skip tables with errors

      Thank you

      • Fix saving column order in datasheet view

I have noticed this issue whereby you move columns and when the user exits the form, the datasheet columns revert back to the original (pre-saved) order. The work around I found was to hide/show columns, toggle one field on then off, close dialogue and then it will save. Not very intuitive.

        Thanks for fixing.

        • Listbox update

Have a fully programmable listbox with events like comctl listbox and treeview we had. Sizable columns, header click, sorting, image support.

            Hi Yossi,

Thanks for posing on Access UserVoice.
We are not quite sure we fully understand the suggestion here.
Could you elaborate and provide more details?

            Thanks,
            Michal [MSFT]

          • Please update Themes (add Dark Gray and Black) to be consistent with other Office suite

We (Access folks) were promised the Dark Gray and Black themes over a year ago. All other Office apps have these. "Blinding white" and "(not my) Colorful" are not very good options, especially when we are trying to be consistent with other Office apps that have 4 choices. Thanks

            • Provide a real SQL Server Front End technology LIKE ADP was

Old ADP Technology in Access provides a Perfect technology to use all the power of a SQL Server Backend. Even if you dont use Access to build the database, is imperative to be able to use Access as a front end to connect to a SQL Server backend like ADP technology provide.

Sincé ADP was deprecated, any other technology provided is real to get a Client/server app. ODB Linked tables can not use Stored procedures and major work must be done in Access.

If is decided to deprecate a technology, you must offer a valid alternative with almost the same…

              • multi core

Multi Threading for MS Access. As we all know ms Access is a single threaded application. If you all remember the fun of seeing, "this program is not responding" during a particularly heavy query or task. Multi threading would add huge value to the speed efficiency and capabilities of this application. I realize it would make visual studio WPF not as much of a stand out but lets be honest Access needs to get some real loving (not silly things like a search bar).

                • Make 32-bit Access large address aware (LAA)

Now that the 32-bit version of Outlook 2016 becomes large address aware (see https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Large-Address-Aware-in-Outlook-2016-ea0913e4-2917-4456-b0ea-935dbd57ef02), it would be great to get that for MS Access as well.

(We hit the 2GB barrier every now and then when batch-exporting MS Access reports as PDF. Having 4GB support would be great. Upgrading to Office 64-bit is usually not an option in corporate environments depending on third-party add-ins.)

                  • Leave right-click menu searching options available in runtime

The right-click menu on DS forms contains BOTH design and user elements. Rather than removiing the entire menu in runtime mode, just remove the design options and leave the user-friendly searching features available.

                    • access 2016 crosstab

Crosstables should never have been removed.
It just doesn't make sense to have to export the data to Excel and if the data changes, we need to export again.
                      Please bring it back

                      • Access database in an inconsistent state...Windows 10 1803 update

Access database in an inconsistent state....since the release of Windows 10, 1803 our significant percentage of our 3500 customers have consistently lost connection to the back-end database and been forced to stop work during the day to repair their database. Only recently did we discover the leasing fix. In the meantime, our product reputation has been adversely affected. Please release a production update since many of the IT people have refused to make the lanmanserver registry entry and are waiting for the Windows update. HELLO MICROSOFT PLEASE HELP!!

                        • bring it into conformance with high DPI design standards

Need to clean up all the UI to scale properly on high DPI displays. E.g., Navigation pane vertical object spacing, low res navigation pane object and navigation (expand/contract) icons, and "Save changes to the following objects" dialog box.

(Hate to spend precious votes on what is basically a set of defects, but there it is.)

Add EXE compiler to create ACCESS runtime database applications (data MDBs always separate) - if possible folr each project simply ONE single distributable EXE file which runs one every "suitable" windows target computer without installation (copy and run).

This will make the supported CREATE PROCEDURE statement begin to be actually meaningful.

Also, permit the Query Editor SQL view to RETAIN WHITESPACE & tabs used for FORMATTING (indenting) in the SQL. to enhance readability.

                              • Siging VBA Code in accdb databases

Currently we are trying to force the option to allow only digital signed macros and don't use Trusted Path at all. This is working fine with Excel, Word, .... But not with the new Access file format.

Yes we can Package and Sign an Access database. But with this the code itself is not signed. See the following blog where the issue is explained in more detail:

                                http://www.codekabinett.com/rdumps.php?Lang=2&targetDoc=signing-vba-code-access-accdb

This is really annoying as it currently counteracts our effort to make the client systems more secure.

                                • Linked Table Manager: select all tables from same back end

One of the biggest pains is when you have multiple back ends and Linked Table Manager (LTM) prompts you at every table. When you have lots of links and multiple back ends, it's a pain to go through and select all from only one back end.

Idea #1: Click on a single table in LTM, then click a button: "Select all tables from same back end." Voila! Now you can update that single back end, and then move on to the next one.

Idea #2: Sort the tables by back end. Not as convenient as Idea #1, but would still…

                                  • Web API service calls from VBA for rest and soap

This need to be simplified so that we can easily connect to web services and return values.

                                    Thanks.

                                      • Rename event VBA subs when controls are renamed.

Renaming form controls leaves orphaned VBA code that was created under the original controls's name.

                                        • Allow arrow up/down keys to move between previous/next row in continuous form

In a datasheet form we can navigate left/right as well as up/down, navigating between different rows of the recordset.

In continuous forms the up/down errors behave the same as left/right.

Nowadays, to achieve the described behavior we have to catch the KeyDown event in a continuous form and MoveNext or MovePrevious with error handling for first/last record etc.

Instead the behavior should be the same as in datasheet form.
There can be an option similar to "Move after <Enter>".
