  1. Access database in an inconsistent state...Windows 10 1803 update

Access database in an inconsistent state....since the release of Windows 10, 1803 our significant percentage of our 3500 customers have consistently lost connection to the back-end database and been forced to stop work during the day to repair their database. Only recently did we discover the leasing fix. In the meantime, our product reputation has been adversely affected. Please release a production update since many of the IT people have refused to make the lanmanserver registry entry and are waiting for the Windows update. HELLO MICROSOFT PLEASE HELP!!

  2. Provide a real SQL Server Front End technology LIKE ADP was

Old ADP Technology in Access provides a Perfect technology to use all the power of a SQL Server Backend. Even if you dont use Access to build the database, is imperative to be able to use Access as a front end to connect to a SQL Server backend like ADP technology provide.

Sincé ADP was deprecated, any other technology provided is real to get a Client/server app. ODB Linked tables can not use Stored procedures and major work must be done in Access.

If is decided to deprecate a technology, you must offer a valid alternative with almost the same…

  3. Make 32-bit Access large address aware (LAA)

Now that the 32-bit version of Outlook 2016 becomes large address aware (see https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Large-Address-Aware-in-Outlook-2016-ea0913e4-2917-4456-b0ea-935dbd57ef02), it would be great to get that for MS Access as well.

(We hit the 2GB barrier every now and then when batch-exporting MS Access reports as PDF. Having 4GB support would be great. Upgrading to Office 64-bit is usually not an option in corporate environments depending on third-party add-ins.)

  4. Siging VBA Code in accdb databases

Currently we are trying to force the option to allow only digital signed macros and don't use Trusted Path at all. This is working fine with Excel, Word, .... But not with the new Access file format.

Yes we can Package and Sign an Access database. But with this the code itself is not signed. See the following blog where the issue is explained in more detail:

    http://www.codekabinett.com/rdumps.php?Lang=2&targetDoc=signing-vba-code-access-accdb

This is really annoying as it currently counteracts our effort to make the client systems more secure.

  5. access 2016 crosstab

Crosstables should never have been removed.
It just doesn't make sense to have to export the data to Excel and if the data changes, we need to export again.
    Please bring it back

  6. Add EXE compiler for ACCESS database applications (data MDBs always separate).

Add EXE compiler to create ACCESS runtime database applications (data MDBs always separate) - if possible folr each project simply ONE single distributable EXE file which runs one every "suitable" windows target computer without installation (copy and run).

  7. bring it into conformance with high DPI design standards

Need to clean up all the UI to scale properly on high DPI displays. E.g., Navigation pane vertical object spacing, low res navigation pane object and navigation (expand/contract) icons, and "Save changes to the following objects" dialog box.

(Hate to spend precious votes on what is basically a set of defects, but there it is.)

  8. Enable Access (and all VBA apps) to work with the new Microsoft Graph

"Microsoft Graph is the gateway to data and intelligence in Microsoft 365. Microsoft Graph provides a unified programmability model that you can use to take advantage of the tremendous amount of data in Office 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security, and Windows 10.
You can use the Microsoft Graph API to build apps for organizations and consumers that interact with the data of millions of users. With Microsoft Graph, you can connect to a wealth of resources, relationships, and intelligence, all through a single endpoint: https://graph.microsoft.com."

It seems that just about every language except VBA can be used to run…

  9. Leave right-click menu searching options available in runtime

The right-click menu on DS forms contains BOTH design and user elements. Rather than removiing the entire menu in runtime mode, just remove the design options and leave the user-friendly searching features available.

  10. Web API service calls from VBA for rest and soap

This need to be simplified so that we can easily connect to web services and return values.

    Thanks.

  11. Rename event VBA subs when controls are renamed.

Renaming form controls leaves orphaned VBA code that was created under the original controls's name.

  12. Allow JET/Ace SQL To support Multiple SQL Statements and comments.

This will make the supported CREATE PROCEDURE statement begin to be actually meaningful.

Also, permit the Query Editor SQL view to RETAIN WHITESPACE & tabs used for FORMATTING (indenting) in the SQL. to enhance readability.

  14. Add a TreeGrid Control

A TreeGrid control could be used in forms, or as just a Tree control. This should be a somewhat customizable look and feel.

  15. Allow arrow up/down keys to move between previous/next row in continuous form

In a datasheet form we can navigate left/right as well as up/down, navigating between different rows of the recordset.

In continuous forms the up/down errors behave the same as left/right.

Nowadays, to achieve the described behavior we have to catch the KeyDown event in a continuous form and MoveNext or MovePrevious with error handling for first/last record etc.

Instead the behavior should be the same as in datasheet form.
There can be an option similar to "Move after <Enter>".

  16. Import/export specs edit feature

Currently, the developer needs to go through the process of importing a file into a database in order to create or edit an import/export spec in the MSysIMEXSpecs table. True, the MSysIMEXColumns can be edited directly in the table, but overall, the process is not very user friendly. There needs to be functionality to create/edit import/export specs without have to pretend that one is importing an external file.

  17. integrate db split BE to cloud

The current method to split to SharePoint List at a 365 account was a good start, but is cumbersome to set up & support. The set up of a 365 account and then learning SharePoint is a real barrier. Documentation/support for this arrangement is very scattered between Access, 365 and SharePoint.

An integrated design whereby the Access developer can split the db with an option to put it in the cloud where the cloud is perceived as nothing but a folder would dramatically increase popularity of the product.

Not needing a pre established 365 account (or OneDrive or DropBox), not…

  18. Coloured Tabs in Tabbed Forms

The only way to make a tabbed form have a colour is to resort to some trick like using a coloured background behind a transparent tab or pasting an image onto it. These cause problems when moving controls around.

It would be nice for the tab control to have the same functionality as a form where one can set the background colour.

  19. Datasheet Column Header Formatting

Currently (Access/Office 1706), the only formatting capability for column headers in datasheet view is with the DatasheetColumnHeaderUnderlineStyle property, and this only seems to work for value 8 (Double Solid). It would be great if some extra capabilities could be added:
    1. Set HeaderHeight (absolute or relative to normal row height, f.i. twice normal).
    2. Options to wrap & align text within Header.
    3. Set Background color / Font bold & color.

Of course more comprehensive header formatting is imaginable, but these basics would already be a great improvement.

    Thanks, Hans (Netherlands)
