  2. Please fix the problem with embedded ole objects in Access Forms and Reports with Windows 10 ver 1703

I recently updated my computer to Windows 10 version 1703 and since then embedded objects in Access forms and reports do not display properly (cannot be seen). When Windows is downgraded to its previous version the problem disappears. The problem occurs with Access 2010, Access 2013 and Access 2016 (all 64bit).

To demonstrate the problem do the following:

    1) Create a blank Access Desktop Database (Database.accdb).

    2) Create a new table (Table1) within the database.

    3) Add an AutoNumber field (ID) to Table1

    4) Add an OLE Object Field (Document) to Table1.

    5) Create a blank form (Form1) within the…

  3. Include the ability to connect to new data sources such as those listed in POWER BI

New external data sources are growing rapidly and it would be useful to keep up-to-date and have ACCESS include these new types.

In the past 6 months we introduced 2 new modern data connectors to Access – Microsoft Dynamics and SalesForce (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Access-Blog/Introducing-New-Connectors-in-Access-Microsoft-Dynamics-and/ba-p/100015)

We recognize that one of Access’ core strengths is the ability to connect to external data sources, and making investments to further expand the already available rich portfolio of external data sources.

If there are specific data sources that are interesting to you, please create a separate suggestion for them.

  4. 64 bit version of mscomctl.ocx.

I support an application with over 90K registered users for a international logistics company (the guys with the brown trucks). We can not support the 64 bit version of Office Access because there is no 64 bit version of this library. Converting the Tree Views to use .Net would be cost prohibitive.

  6. Include Access runtime in editions of Office which have click-to-run which stops installation of most up-to-date version of runtime.

When a PC has an edition of Office 365 installed which does not have the full edition of Access included, e.g. all the Business editions and the basic E1 enterprise edition, it is not possible to install the current version of the runtime as well since the Access runtime is an MSI installation and Office 365 is click-to-run. See https://blogs.office.com/2015/12/16/access-2016-runtime-is-now-available-for-download/ for more details.
If Microsoft do any serious development on Access (let's call it Access 2019), it means we cannot install the Access 2019 runtime and will be stuck with the Access 2016 runtime (or earlier), thereby missing out on…

  8. Allow Access to connect to a dBASE (.dbf) file with a name over 8 characters

Access files cannot connect to a .dbf file if the .dbf's file's name is over 8 characters. I am grateful for bringing back support for .dbf files, but these are often created by other applications and we do not have control over their name length.

This is posted following Tisky Zheng's comment in my Microsoft community question here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msofficeaccess-msoother/connect-access-2016-to-dbf-file-with-a-name-over-8/b85202d6-e9f2-4489-bb54-45c85a386ea3

  9. Build a new better Access

Imagine a client side, pure javascript, SPA web application that displays windowed, data bound forms that talk to SQL Server. These forms are modeled with all of the well though out capabilities of Access forms (same subforms, datasheets, subdatasheets, controls, events, and properties). The development environment is Access-like but Javascript has replaced VBA. SSRS and PowerBI render the reports. SQL Server is the database and the web server, delivering the application through a web port, manages the session/connections, and maintains data. The product comes with SQL Server. Not bound to the cloud, but bound to SQL Server.

  10. Allow CTRL+A to select all text in a query's SQL View

Pressing CTRL+A should select all text in a query's SQL View. It does not work in Access 2013.

My current work-around is an AutoHotkey script.

This is fixed in version 1707 (so in Current Channel, and Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted) now, and will be in Semi-Annual Channel in January 2018).

Note that this only covers being able to use Ctrl+A in query SQL view, so if you have specific requests for other improvements please open a new item.

  11. Property Sheet Line Items Sort

I find it hard to find properties that I know exist but do not remember their order. Why can we not have a sort option on the properties?

  12. Bring back Database Templates on office.com

It would be sometimes useful, to start new Databases from a template. Scince Access 2013 there are no templates avaiable on https://templates.office.com/

Please bring back the Database templates on your central Office.com hub, especially the well known Northwind Database!

  15. Fix The Runtime Versions Of Access 2010 And Above To Not Show The Home Tab At Startup

When Access 2007 Runtime opens a password protected database the only thing on the Ribbon is the Access button (Backstage) while the user is prompted for the password.

When Access 2010 and above Runtime opens a password protected database the Home tab is shown in addition to the File (Backstage) button while the user is prompted for the password.

We have an application where the custom Ribbon only contains the File button for printing. It is confusing to the user to see the Home tab while entering the database password.

  16. Shift F2 Zoom Box

This Shift F2 trick is useful in a number of places: In QBE grid, in Properties sheet, in forms, etc.
    (a) My eternal aggravation is it is pokey in size. Let us control size; when we re-size it, please have MS Access remember the new size.
    (b) Oh please, oh please, make it remember the font and font size we pick to display its data. You will make us older folks HAPPY.

  17. Bring back support to connect to DBASE in desktop Access 2016

We recently updated our desktop Office programs from 2007 to 2016 Professional Plus. I just went to open a database and run several queries and got an ISAM error. When searching the web I found the post from here about MS bringing back support for connecting to dBASE in Office 365 only. First, it made no sense to remove it and second, why would MS only bring it back for 365? Why would MS remove this capability in the first place? Has MS committed to bringing it back and, if so, when will it be available? I now have to…

The Help system is actually a shared piece of engineering owned by a different team and surfaced within all of the Office applications. As such, this isn’t really an action item that the Access development team can take in isolation of the existing Office system.
We have passed on this feedback to the right team for their consideration. They did ask us to forward on the following information to you:
You can download an Access 2016 VBA CHM file on GitHub for offline use. You can find it here:
    https://github.com/OfficeDev/VBA-content/blob/master/README.md

You can find 2013 version of VBA documentation here:

  19. please fix the jump occurring when scrolling in the navigation pane of Access 2016

When scrolling in the navigation pane of Access 2016 on a Windows 10 box, the list always 'jumps" back up to a higher place than I have scrolled to. Though I have applied a few changes to my mouse and set screen enlargement to 100% (which is not realistic for me as the font is too small), the screen still jumps. I never had an issue in previous versions of Access. From researching a fix, It appears to be a long standing and unaddressed issue. It's a migraine trigger when the screen jumps and I'm trying to find something in…

Hi, this issue is fixed in Office 365. I am resolving this so that your votes will be returned to you. If you see any further issues, consider submitting feedback using the Help tab in the ribbon in Access (of course feel free to make suggestions here as well)

  20. Please, please hurry and release the 2016 runtime

So many of us publish Access desktop applications for needy users that cannot afford to buy Office products; without the 2016 runtime available to us those needy users must do without. Please help us.
