  1. Refresh tables/queries while in Query Design View

Add a way to refresh the columns listed in tables and queries being shown in the graphical layout of the Query Design View. A right-click, hotkey, or ribbon button would be nice.

This scenario takes place when you are designing a new query that is dependent on other tables and queries. As you are working in Design View, you realize you need to make a change to a dependent table/query such as adding or renaming a column. Without closing the current query, you go and update the dependent object and come back to the open query. Now you want to…

  2. improve performance of conditional formating

conditional formating is a great feature but slow when data is not small and forms flicker. Can you please improve that?
By the way: Shadows of Buttons flicker too.

  3. Ability to Show Property Sheet and Field List at the Same Time

This is not new ... just missed! We used to be able to show the Property Sheet and Field List at the same time ... I miss this a lot!

  4. Make Access again able to import / export / transform as many file types / legacy files like it used to

Ability to open and convert .mdb was removed in Access 2013. Put that all back

  5. Parallel Processing

Maybe this is too much to ask. Can we request to to evolve from VBA to vb.net? allowing us to take advantages of parallel executions?

  6. Expose Swipe Events on Forms so Touch Screens can be Supported

Add SwipeLeft, SwipeRight, SwipeUp and SwipeDown events at the form level. Tabs could support Swipe Left and Right to move to the next tab. Datasheets could use it to move in the grid.

  7. Improve the error messages - eg tell us WHICH records had Key Violations

Many of the error messages could be more informative. Those that tell us 'it was not possible to xxxx nn records' could provide information in a table about which records had the problem - like you get with type conversion errors on an import.

  8. wpf

    wpf/xaml Controls and Windows

allow to insert wpf/xaml Windows to be placed in the forms-container.
so developers can switch partially the accdb apps to new databases

  9. Support strong-typed nullable data types.

In VBA, we can only store nulls in a Variant data type. But I hate this because this lacks information whether this is a string, a number or date. In SQL, those data types are all nullable but we have to constantly do Nz(), IsNull(), to avoid the nefarious error "Invalid use of Null".

Please make it possible for us to specify a nullable data type so that we also know this can be only either a null or a number (and thus prevent invalid entries of string in addition to writing self-documenting code).

  10. Make Reports Into There Own File Format Like .RPT

Microsoft Access is pretty nice when it comes to reporting. The biggest drawback with reporting in a production environment is that it is bound to the application... i.e. many times customers want a small change on reports and you have to distribute a whole new version just to make a minor change that may have only taken 5 minutes! You should give Access report the ability to be exportable into a file format like SSRS or Crystal... this way we can edit and replace reports without having to re version the full applicaton.

  11. Improve Access SQL

Access SQL is currently an extremely small subset of the SQL most other SQL dialects understand. The simple INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE commands are a good example, i.e. an OUTPUT clause would be of great help or many other syntax extensions well known from other SQL dialects.
Also the integration of a CTE like construct like with SQL Server would be a great step forward.
And Access SQL would also be much better if it would have support for XML output like with "FOR XML AUTO" in SQL Server. Querying with XML would be a little bit "too much" although not uninterestingly, but…

  12. Implement QR-Code-Abilities in Report-Output

As there are more and more QR-Codes oder 3D-Codes used by companies and private persons, it would be great to have the ability to place an QR-Code in Reports in Access.

At the moment there are some 3-party-solutions - but you have to install the add-ins separately and pay a lot of money for it. As the add-ins are regulary with user-licence, you can't use it in an Access-Database opened with Access-Runtime by everyone in a company.

An QR-Code-Field should be able to transform the inserted text of a data-field to QR-Code. There should also be the possibility to hide…

  14. Enable use of transparent images when on top of another image in MS Access 2016 reports

I am sure you have this request many times, but was disappointed that MS Access 2016 still does not have the ability to use a transparent image (like GIF) on top of another image. It works as a standalone, but if you put it on top of another image it loses it's transparency.

  15. Put more Access 2007 Background Colour in Access 2016

We find that the background colour selection in Access 2016 are way too restrictive (blinding white). Access 2007 has a light blue background and is pleasing to the eye. Would it be possible to include in Access 2016 along with other colour options?

  16. Please bring back the access user level security

many my clients don't need the true security of SQL server. they are small restaurants and tine retailers. they still user access 2000. but some have been force to use MySQL, or even PostgreSQL on even Linux systems. so, bring the user level security back in your 2019 access will save the world, and good to windows world.

  17. DSN less connection wizard

Please design a wizard for dns-less coonections to SQL databases. Make it easier to use Access as frontend devolpment for different situations.
Other RAD tools have this already.

  18. custom menu

Bring menus back as an option. The story I heard was that MS Access had to go the way of other Office applications. The example was that Word had over 1,400 menu options and most of the tech support calls were to help people find the right menu item. Access is different. Most MS Access application have a limited set of menu options so the need for the Ribbon interface is overkill.

  19. ODBC errors need to return more information error 3146 does not provide enough detail

Perhaps an error.description2 property which we can reference which stores the error returned from SQL about the true problem. Right now it is very difficult to trouble shoot.

    Thanks.

  20. Attach SQL tables without "dbo_" or give the option to do so

It would be more intuitive to link sql tables WITHOUT the owner prefix.
