You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Bring back the support for connecting to dBASE.

Access has always been about connecting to other data sources. Excel can still connect to dBASE files, but support for Access to connect was dropped. You can see from all the chatter, that there really is a lot of people that still use dBASE files for data transfer.

    • Gracefully handle ODBC connection lost failure

Today, when a ODBC connection is lost, we get:
      (For SQL server)
A SQL server login screen which (in my opinion) the user should never see in the first place. He has no idea what to with it.
When/if he cancels, he gets an ugly error message.

We need to be able to:
      A) Handle that failure gracefully WITHOUT showing the login screen.
A++) Be able to reconnect without having to restart the application.

      • Please make Access able to handle more data types as are commonly used in Server databases

For example Access cannot handle BigInt in linked tables. This has been in use in SQL Server for many years, but Access can't handle them in linked tables.

(Apologies for the irrelevant emailed response earlier)

Not too long ago we added support for Large Number (Big Int) – https://blogs.office.com/en-us/2017/03/06/new-in-access-2016-large-number-bigint-support/

We reviewed all the suggestions below and took note of them. I’m going to mark this topic as Done so you can your votes back.
If you’d like to ask for additional data type support, please create new suggestion (one for each).

          Thanks,
          Michal [MSFT]

        • Include Access Desktop In All O365 Subscription Plans

This idea was previously posted by me and it was closed. It's a very important idea in a product marketing sense. Ironically, NONE of the O365 Business plans include Access!

          • Make it easier to select edges of controls/boxes for re-sizing

When selecting control edges such as in Query Design when re-sizing the table/query boxes, make it easier to select the edge. Right now, I need precision movements to get the mouse to select the edge to re-size the box. This applies to almost every instance of selecting a control or box within Access.

            • Fix the image issue with 2016 where they don't appear?

Fix the current issue with images not displaying in forms/reports in Access 2016. Fix the issue of copying controls with images not working.

Fix your bugs before tackling new projects/features.

              • Provide a modern Chart control

Please, give us the Chart control, at least, like Excel has. It's impossible to build an interactive dashboard in Access because of lack of functionality and Win95 look. For example, out-of-the-box BoxPlot chart in Excel 2016 is awesome. Why not Access? Or even interactive functionality like PowerView has.

                  • Do something before the Access Team looses it jobs

Every single good idea that has been posted here has been rejected. It truly appears that MS is only interested in their cloud products.

The Access Team better do something or they are all going to looking for a new job like the rest of us who rely on their product to help make a living.

The past month has been filled with the rejection of ideas, some that could bring this product to new levels. Either it is too difficult for their developers or its all about $$ in the cloud services.

It amazing they just cannot see that…

The skinny borders in the Relationship and Query Design windows mean it now takes ages to resize the tables because you need to be pixel-perfect to grab the edges. Please make them big again

                      • Forms view not scrolling

With the last version update of Access, the forms no longer scroll. The wheel on the mouse doesnt scroll anymore. The scroll bar also doesnt work when you drag it up or down. Is there a timeline for a fix on this bug? If no known timeline, I will have to downgrade my version of Access to fix the problem.

                            • Please fix the problem with embedded ole objects in Access Forms and Reports with Windows 10 ver 1703

I recently updated my computer to Windows 10 version 1703 and since then embedded objects in Access forms and reports do not display properly (cannot be seen). When Windows is downgraded to its previous version the problem disappears. The problem occurs with Access 2010, Access 2013 and Access 2016 (all 64bit).

To demonstrate the problem do the following:

                              1) Create a blank Access Desktop Database (Database.accdb).

                              2) Create a new table (Table1) within the database.

                              3) Add an AutoNumber field (ID) to Table1

                              4) Add an OLE Object Field (Document) to Table1.

                              5) Create a blank form (Form1) within the…

New external data sources are growing rapidly and it would be useful to keep up-to-date and have ACCESS include these new types.

In the past 6 months we introduced 2 new modern data connectors to Access – Microsoft Dynamics and SalesForce (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Access-Blog/Introducing-New-Connectors-in-Access-Microsoft-Dynamics-and/ba-p/100015)

We recognize that one of Access’ core strengths is the ability to connect to external data sources, and making investments to further expand the already available rich portfolio of external data sources.

If there are specific data sources that are interesting to you, please create a separate suggestion for them.

                                • Include Access runtime in editions of Office which have click-to-run which stops installation of most up-to-date version of runtime.

When a PC has an edition of Office 365 installed which does not have the full edition of Access included, e.g. all the Business editions and the basic E1 enterprise edition, it is not possible to install the current version of the runtime as well since the Access runtime is an MSI installation and Office 365 is click-to-run. See https://blogs.office.com/2015/12/16/access-2016-runtime-is-now-available-for-download/ for more details.
If Microsoft do any serious development on Access (let's call it Access 2019), it means we cannot install the Access 2019 runtime and will be stuck with the Access 2016 runtime (or earlier), thereby missing out on…

The issue is now fixed in Version 1709 (8528.2139). To get the update immediately, open any Office 2016 app and choose File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.

                                    • Allow Access to connect to a dBASE (.dbf) file with a name over 8 characters

Access files cannot connect to a .dbf file if the .dbf's file's name is over 8 characters. I am grateful for bringing back support for .dbf files, but these are often created by other applications and we do not have control over their name length.

This is posted following Tisky Zheng's comment in my Microsoft community question here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_access-mso_other/connect-access-2016-to-dbf-file-with-a-name-over-8/b85202d6-e9f2-4489-bb54-45c85a386ea3

A change that supports connecting to dBase files with longer than 8 char names, is now rolling out to O365 customers.

                                        Regards,
                                        Access Engineering

                                      • Allow CTRL+A to select all text in a query's SQL View

Pressing CTRL+A should select all text in a query's SQL View. It does not work in Access 2013.

My current work-around is an AutoHotkey script.

This is fixed in version 1707 (so in Current Channel, and Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted) now, and will be in Semi-Annual Channel in January 2018).

Note that this only covers being able to use Ctrl+A in query SQL view, so if you have specific requests for other improvements please open a new item.

                                        • Property Sheet Line Items Sort

I find it hard to find properties that I know exist but do not remember their order. Why can we not have a sort option on the properties?
