I suggest you ...

Make the 'Compact and Repair Database' function automatic on saves

Access file sizes grow rapidly, even if there's no database in use. PC's are fast enough to do the Compact and Repair function with very little delay in saving files. At least make it an option in the Current Database settings.

        And it doesn't always work well. Sometimes something goes wrong and no-one notices until they notice loads of files in the same folder as the original Access database named Database1.accdb, Database2.accdb, Database3.accdb or something similar.
