  1. Import from Access to hide and ignore Msys tables

If you have set your nav pane options to show system objects, they should not show in the Import list.

  2. USysNotes Object for documentation

When creating objects such as forms and reports it would useful to be able to have a dialogue form where you can key in notes and a date to keep documentation current. Have a few columns for date, user notes and developer notes. On the ribbon, have a notes icon which will open the notes to the current object for display and edit. Have it link to the ID Field in Msysobject table.

  3. Global practice of changing defaults to New and "Improved" features

Microsoft has this extremely annoying practice of changing a feature and making it the new default. For example I personally do NOT like tabbed documents. I recognize other people like it. Who decides the tabbed document protocol is "better" (it is not!) and very annoyingly making it the default. This is just one example. Many others should come to mind.

Please understand some of us have been using Access for a very long time. When I open a new version, my first pulse pounding moments are filled with, "Oh God! What has the Access team "improved" now? Until I find…

  5. Report View: Hide empty subreport

In print preview and normal view, if a supreport is empty, it gets hidden. Please do the same for Report view.

  6. Dialog Box Sizes

Do NOT have ANY dialog boxes that are limited in size, esp. when they open modally (do not let you click outside their zone of control).
Linked Table Manager is one. Library File management dialog box is another (where we go to tell it where a new or missing dll file is located). There are others. Simply stop using this very old protocol.

  8. import from excel

Better control of datatypes when importing from Excel or linking to a worksheet.

Currently the import decides for you using the first few rows, so often you have truncated memo fields when the first few rows are less than 255 char or errors when the first few rows are numeric but later rows are alpha numeric.

When importing into an existing table the import should honor the datatypes in the table.

  10. Create error log file for all messages but it must include enough audit info

Perhaps like a sql server log file, create a file of with error messages using err.object properties but the records must include application db, user, date/time, object(access object), module, procedure.

  11. Add a .Workspace property to the DATABASE object. Also, add Properties to the WORKSPACE to reflect whether any TRANSACTTIONS are open.

There is currently no pointer from an open Database handle to point back to the Workspace it is a part of. There should be - we get away with this because Workspaces(0)(0) is the detault 99.999% of the time. However, what if it isn't? We can't tell form looking at the open database handle, and that's actually pa problem, especially if one needs to react, say in a bit of generic error handling code, to any pending/open/hanging TRANSACTIONS in the relevant WORKSPACE.

Which brings me to the second point - there is no available STATUS properties of the DBEngine, Workspace,…

  13. Improve the error messages - eg tell us WHICH records had Key Violations

Many of the error messages could be more informative. Those that tell us 'it was not possible to xxxx nn records' could provide information in a table about which records had the problem - like you get with type conversion errors on an import.

  14. There should be a feature to disable the ability to export all objects in access desktop database

There should be a feature to disable the ability to export all objects in access 2007 SP3 up to access 2016 desktop database, regardless whether the database is passworded or not.

    wpf/xaml Controls and Windows

allow to insert wpf/xaml Windows to be placed in the forms-container.
so developers can switch partially the accdb apps to new databases

  16. Create an "Access Enterprise" version with most of the improvements we've suggested.

This new SKU would be welcomed by Enterprise IT departments and the professional development community if it lives up to their expectations. You can also charge a subscription or one-time payment for the Access Enterprise runtime's in order to fund the improvements we've requested in this site.

  17. Column Order in Queries

Is it really necessary to re-arrange the column order when I save a query? It tells me MS Access is reducing the QBE grid entries into SQL, optimizing that syntax and when asked for it later the presentation looks scrambled. While this may be needed internally, how much harder can it be to ask the internals to remember the column order?

  18. CurrentModule, CurrentClass, CurrentProcedure properties

Create these properties so that when writing VBA Code they can be easily referenced. Example MsgBox "Hello Word", vbInformation, currentModule & " - " & currentProcedure

  19. improve ACE / eliminate or expand limitations

Too many queries fail for obscure reasons. E.g., a crosstab that has a subquery somewhere in it. I bet there are already open defect on a lot of these issues from the JET days. Work them! Limitations like the 32 table limitation occasionally get in the way as well.

(Again hating to spend votes on defects, but it is what it is.)

  20. Report Events Need To Be Cleaned Up

You really need to clean up the Report Event Model so that code inside a Report gets fired the same way in Preview, Report and Print modes. It is obvious from the Internet that lots of people have run into this and there is little or no common-sense help on this issue ... this itself is strange.

If, for example, you add a message box in the OnOpen Event of a report, the message box fires if you run Docmd.OpenReport with the acViewPreview switch but not if you use the acViewPrint or acViewReport switches.

If you place the same code…
