  1. Use scope_identity() to refresh linked SQL-Server tables or views

After inserting a row into a linked SQL-Server-table or view Access is refreshing the row. For these query on the new row, Access builds a where-condition which compares all fields with the known values.

If a inserted value gets changed in the meantime e. g. by a Trigger, the where-condition fails and the returned resultset is empfy. Access is showing then the text "#deleted" in the row.

Before SQL-Server 2008 this was probably the only way, to get the new identity of the new row.

Since SQL-Server 2008 exists the function scope_identity() which returns the new identity of a row…

  2. Add SQL view in Access Service QBE and enhance SQL support to be equivalent to Desktop functionality is Desktop

Currently ACCESS Services has datasheet view and QBE, why not SQL view like Access Desktop given its a Azure backend it would only make sense.

  3. Access Product Improvement SQL query Access

I made this suggestion on another site and someone pointed me to this one so I am adding it here as well....

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2016-access/access-product-improvement/4ba8de7f-638f-4429-9e00-5ba454b047a7

I am trying to provide a suggestion for Office Access, I really can't believe this has been added already.

When right clicking on a query in the database object listing, you know, tables, queries, reports, forms, etc. On the query right click pop menu, PLEASE add a link to open up directly to the SQL view for the query, instead of the design view, where we then need to go to the menu bar and select from…

  4. Visual indicator of unsaved changes

It would be nice to have some sort of indicator on the tab bar that shows if a query/table/... has been modified without saving, like a star "*" at the end of the name.

  5. Tab seamlessly between subform and main form

For a subform control, add a property to allow tabbing to next control on main form when at the end of the record(s) in the subform. This will allow for seamless tabbing from the user instead of one of the following:
    1) having to know about ctrl+tab
    2) requiring a mouse to get out of a subform and back to the main form
    3) adding a work-around by adding a control and coding in VBA to setfocus back to the next control on the main form

  6. Summary Row in DataGrid-view on SQL-Server tables builds Aggregat on Client instead of using serverside aggregate-functions

When using the summary row in a DataGrid-view with SQL-Server-tables or views the Aggregate is build on the clientside, which is very slow when rowcount is high. Continually all rows are fetched to build summary. When ready, it starts again.

Please use sum(), avg()...-Aggregate-functions to get the summary.

  7. Add some basic (fundamental) checks to text-fields

Add some basic restrictions/rules to text fields like
    - numbers only (incl./excl. .,+-< >)
    - only characters ... allowed
    -- like a to z, A to Z, ABC, incl./excl. language specifics (like ü û)
    - entry must be between (1 to 999, 427 to 634, AAA to BBB)

Also add some basic formatting like
    - convert to lower case
    - convert to upper case
    - convert to web-compatible
    - convert to date/time (enter 290416 to get 29.04.2016 or 1534 to get 15:34)
    - convert using Word rules
    - convert to ... (EBCDIC, Codepage xyz, Unicode...)

  8. Implement QR-Code-Abilities in Report-Output

As there are more and more QR-Codes oder 3D-Codes used by companies and private persons, it would be great to have the ability to place an QR-Code in Reports in Access.

At the moment there are some 3-party-solutions - but you have to install the add-ins separately and pay a lot of money for it. As the add-ins are regulary with user-licence, you can't use it in an Access-Database opened with Access-Runtime by everyone in a company.

An QR-Code-Field should be able to transform the inserted text of a data-field to QR-Code. There should also be the possibility to hide…

  9. bloat

it would be great if Access files would not Change the size so othen (bloat) and if the file size could be reduced. This would minimize Performance issues with different Virus Scanners and other issues.

  10. Allow Datasheet Column Colours to be set individually. Currently this can only be done using conditional formating as a workaround!

With datasheets I often display system fields with a Grey background to visually indicate these cannot be edited. It would be great if we could set the BackColor Property of a Datasheet Field!

  11. Make an EASY, built-in way to develop and keep pure VBA code, separate-but-visible-and-seamlessly-callable from any Office app.

Probably impossible. But would have made a big difference to me while learning! Had slightly different versions of many of the same routines in several different apps before I even realized what was happening; took a very long time to separate back out.

  12. Form.Move Method Does Not Work With Split Form

Split forms with Pop Up property set to yes will do nothing when trying to use VBA code Form.Move Method.

Docmd.MoveSize Method works, but not Form.Move Method.

This condition has been verified by multiple users via UtterAccess Forum.

  13. Add "Quick Filter" as feature on Continuous Forms

Add the "Quick Filter" drop down menu that is on columns of a datasheet view as a feature that can be used on continuous form controls

  14. Allow report heights to be much greater than 55 cm.

As some databases get bigger and more complex the need to report also gets more complex. If the structure of the database is very complex, the 55 cm maximum height for a report becomes insufficient and there comes a need to bodge the design by inserting lots of subreports, each with their own limitation in height. This can cause severe difficulties, particularly with page-breaks.

    Please remove the height limit.

  15. Enhance SQL aggregate functions with DISTINCT (count distinct, sum distinct, avg distinct)

The DISTINCT option for aggregate functions is actually missing.

  16. Split screen in MS-Access

For the development of modern and user-friendly programs a division of the window (split screen) in MS Access is desirable so that the window can be scaled user-dependent.

  17. Make use of ACCDE much easier

Currently it is a big problem to handle ACCDE files, if your users do have different versions of Access: Full or Runtime, 2010 / 2013 / 2016, 32bit or 64bit. Please support a "low level format" with a higher level of compatibility.

  18. Read-Only Defaults for Tables and Queries

I would like an option to make tables and queries read-only by default. This would be under Access Options, Object Designers, Table & Query design sections. Two settings:
    * Make Tables read-only in Datasheet view
    * Make new Queries read-only (Snapshot)
Rationale: I deal with a lot of production data, and it would make my job considerably easier if I could make accidentally changing data much harder. Thanks!

  19. More Controls are every time in the foreground (e.g. slider, speed) when you work with a sub form

There are several controls that always in the foreground (eg. Speed, Slider, ..) appear and other controls can not be covered). This is very disturbing when programming.

  20. Add native control for multiselect checkboxes

Please provide a new native control for multiselect checkboxes like available in Excel for filtered columns.
