Pushing Win10 & Office updates without thouroughly testing is one more reason why my users have not upgraded past Windows 7 and Office 2010 Professional. I have a fiduciary responsibility to ensure that my users have a stable platform to conduct their business uninterrupted.

Desktop Access seems to die a little bit more every time they release a new version by deprecating features, and Access Web Apps has been killed for the fourth time. Meantime, MS is encouraging us to use PowerApps.

oops, second example not applicable to Access, although multi-user Excel is a long overdue feature. Take a peek at some of these other completed ideas:

Are we now using this site to peddle other people's products?.. Someone else suggested MS buy or license Rick Fisher's "Find and Replace". I'm waiting to see if someone suggests to buy Luke Chong's FMS..

I think MS intentionally did this to force users to subscribe to an O365 plan that includes Access.

You can distribute a modified report, form, etc. by exporting the object(s) to a blank accdb, then import to the production application.

In my opinion, storing plaintext password in a shortcut is a big security risk. I still don't understand why it's so difficult for MS to provide better security for Access.

@KVD, I love macros, tabbed docs, and Jensen Harris' ribbon! <JK>.. I sympathize with you and others like me who feel MS hasn't listened to users feedback before deciding on adding, changing and deprecating features. It's like "Here, eat this, it's good for you. If you don't want to eat it, you'll starve".
I'm hoping that with all of MS' upper management changes and a virtually new Access team, who at our request created this user voice forum, that they will seek our advice and feedback prior to implemented future changes.

I think what would really cure all ailments is if we could compile Access into an EXE, e.g. VB6.

@George Hepworth, in the same LinkedIn PMADN thread, previously mentioned, a comment was also made by a different Access MVP. Does this also constitute a breach of NDA?..
"I just got back from the Summit and can tell you that VBA isn't going away; Microsoft (finally) understands the impact that it has on business. The OM will continue to be updated as features are added, however the IDE will not be updated - Period. Yes, there is a push to JS API's, and MS is doing a pretty cool job of building out cross functionality, but it's going to take a while. The big thing to remember is that they want to provide the same experience across all platforms. Yeah, you're not going to develop a VBA app on the iPhone, but you might need people to be able to view such a thing without it breaking."

@George Hepworth, without mentioning names, you can view the comment made by one of your MVP colleague's in LinkedIn's PMADN group. Furthermore, I was just asking if this is true, so no need to insinuate I'm spreading rumors or fabricating this.

I heard from someone who recently attended the MVP Summit that MS is going to deprecate DAO. Is this true?

Thank you for your feedback.
In terms of setting SQL Server as the default database format, that is currently not in scope for the Access product. We have provided and will continue to provide efficient methods to integrate your Access data with SQL server, and the team will continue to develop more features that streamline the data migration experience (see https://support.office.com/en-us/article/migrate-an-access-database-to-sql-server-7bac0438-498a-4f53-b17b-cc22fc42c979)
However, the ACE database engine has and will continue to be Access’s central data storage unit.
There are new features coming soon that will improve the Access: SQL experience, and we are excited to share this news. Please stay tuned! :)

No one really loves Jet/ACE, but I think MSFT continues to include it as the native backend because it's easier for inexperienced users to work with? Many Access applications still use MDB/ACCDB's and a good upsizing wizard would be required, along with a good SSIS-like GUI for maintaining the BE's.

@Kent - Applications built with Access are primarily used as in-facing apps by employees. It's too big of a security risk to allow anonymous users, and perhaps the primary reason MSFT deprecated public access to Sharepoint/AWA. There are other tools better suited for anonymous users, such LAMP stacks.
As to the OP's idea, Access Desktop could be used with REST as a RESTful server. VFP (VisualFoxPro) has successfully provided this capability!

There's no such thing as "Access 365 ProPlus". However, certain Office 365 online subscription plans allow you to download Desktop Office 2019/16/13 Pro Plus, which includes Access. So maybe you mean there is no black color scheme (not theme) available in the Access Options > General menu?
