    Personally, I don't think C&R should be messed with. It has worked well for many, many years and if they mess with it, who knows what bugs may be introduced. Once that happens, it could take years before it is fixed.
    With data size approaching 2GB, I would store it in a more robust server database, rather than a file share database that could so easily be corrupted by a network glitch.
    I love Access, but like anything else, it has it's limits.

    John, I've seen the issues you describe and it was supposedly fixed sever versions ago, although I've seen it come back. What I have found is that it only happens if you insert into a linked table. If you insert directly into the back end, there is no problem. Also, there is code around for resetting the autonumber without inserting an extra record. Just do a web search.

    Installing SQL Express alongside Access makes no sense in a multi-user environment.
